Opening Boys Sunday

Friday, September 8, 2017 by Brian Glosh | Full Boys

Dear Parents,

Thank you for everyone's attention this morning with the Opening Ceremony.Everything went very smoothly even with heavy traffic and horrible parking.

This Sunday, September 10th is our first full Sunday with the Boys choir. They will sing both the 11:15 AM Eucharist and the 4:00 PM Evensong.I will also be hosting the annual Boys Parent Meeting beginning at 10:00 am (same time as morning rehearsal). We will begin just outside Bethlehem Chapel with a quick Cathedral tour and end up in the Cathedral Library for more information specific to the Boys choir.Just a few quick reminders about Sunday:

1.Please wear the Blazer Uniform every Sunday. This must include black socks and shoes!

2.Morning rehearsal begins at 10:00 am - Good shepherd access begins at 9:45 AM

3.Eucharist begins at 11:15 am usually ends around 12:30 PM

4.Lunch is not provided by the Cathedral.Students are released to parents between 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM

5.Afternoon  rehearsal begins at 2:45 PM - Good shepherd access begins at 2:30 PM

6.Evensong begins at 4:00 PM and usually ends around 5:00/5:15 PM

Full Sundays are inherently long days that require a lot of focus and energy to be successful. Therefore, having the proper sleep the night before becomes extremely important. It will take some time for the boys to get used to this schedule so anything you can do at home to help is appreciated. As always, you are invited to attend any and all services!

Finally, our first school day rehearsal is Friday, September 8th.Your son may be asking how this fits into their day so I have attached a daily schedule that the school also receives that defines what the daily schedule looks like and the daily procedures.I attend all lunches at St. Albans on B,E, and G days to meet the boys immediately after lunch and escort them to and from the Cathedral.I can also make announcements that time for the choristers and the school.Important to remember that on days of chorister rehearsals, the boys will be walking outside and therefore will need to wear appropriate clothing!I will try to send reminders on extreme weather days.

Thank you for your tremendous amount of help and support to begin the school year!

Chichester Solo Information

Friday, March 18, 2016 by Brian Glosh | Full Boys

Hello gentlemen,

We will be holding auditions for  the treble solo in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms shortly after we return from Spring Break. These auditions are for outside performances with two area choirs. One junior and one senior will be selected, as well as covers/understudies for each. You are not required to audition, but if you want to audition, be sure to practice over spring break. Counting and tuning are tricky, so keep your toes tapping and your ears open!

The following resources may be of help:

A recording of the WNC choir in 2011. The solo begins at 1:30, and returns at 3:55 and 5:30. You may be interested to hear the whole movement – it is awesome.

Also, you can find the recordings of the accompaniment in the Library and Download section of MyMusicStaff so you can practice, karaoke-style, at home. Many thanks to Ms. Mondel and Mr. Straley for providing them!

Boys Announcements

Monday, February 1, 2016 by Brian Glosh | Full Boys

Hello Parents,

Yesterday's Evensong was spectacular, as 120 Choristers from across the D.C. Diocese joined the Cathedral Boys for evensong.  If you would like to see photos, there are some posted on the Choristers Facebook page and on our new website.  This has been an annual event, but the Cathedral has never hosted it.  Hopefully we can continue to do this in the future and bring in Choristers from not only this area, but across the nation!

I would like to apologize for the snack confusion!  This is a very important part of the boy's afternoon and our drop-off procedures have been less than consistent.  The addition of the new Beauvoir class is exciting, but gave us more schedule mix-ups than expected.  If it is OK with Kris, our superb snack coordinator, I would like to provide snacks for the boys this week as an apology and a thank you for everyone's flexibility and support.

Schedule

Summer Dates: The choristers will have no obligation during the two weeks following school.  These dates are June 5th through June 18th.  Enjoy the summer!

Choir Camp: Choir camp dates for August 2016 are Thursday, August 25th through Wednesday, August 31st.  Because of schedule with Roslyn we needed to leave at a different time during the week.  This may give us the opportunity to not only sing a concert, but to provide service music while we are in Richmond!
