Holy Week and Easter

Holy week and Easter is one of the busiest and most important times of the year for the Cathedral and the Choristers.  They are asked to do quite a lot in a short amount of time, and this year, to sacrifice their Spring Break to serve the Cathedral.  They will need as much rest as possible, along with drinking lots of water and following healthy vocal habits to successfully make it through this part of the season. 

All rehearsal and services from March 24th – March 27th are required, but please read and check your calendars carefully so that you completely understand when your son or daughter should be present.  Every day the choristers are asked to stay for an extended amount of time, food will be provided by the Cathedral. 

The following is a calendar review of the upcoming calls and services:

Maundy Thursday (March 24th, 2016)

  • REQUIRED Full Girls Rehearsal from 2:00 – 4:00 pm
  • REQUIRED Full Boys Rehearsal from 4:00 – 5:30 pm
    • Dinner will be served between Rehearsal and the Maundy Thursday Service
  • REQUIRED Full Boys Maundy Thursday Service 6:00 – 9:00 pm
    • Service begins at 7:30 pm

Good Friday (March 25th, 2016)

  • REQUIRED Full Girls rehearsal from 9:30 – 11:30 am
    • Lunch is provided between rehearsal and the service
  • REQUIRED Good Friday Service 12:00 – 3:00 pm

Easter Sunday (March 27th, 2016)

  • REQUIRED Girls call at 7:00 am
    • Services at 8:00 and 11:00 am
    • Breakfast will be provided between services
  • REQUIRED Boys call at 2:45 pm
    • Evensong begins at 4:00 pm

If you wish to attend any Easter Vigil or Easter Sunday service you will need to contact Sarah Rockwood at 202-537-2234 or srockwood@cathedral.org to reserve Easter passes. 

Finally, please note that the Choristers have no weekday evensongs from March 14th – April 1st.  We will resume weekday evensongs on April 4th with our new Novice additions!
